Integrated Control Technologies, based in Carrollton, Texas, does AC-drive conversions for plastic extrusion companies, replacing existing DC motors.

“DC motors are expensive to rewind and require a lot of maintenance to keep them operating. This is compounded by the fact that they are very inefficient,” said Scott Barlow, vice president and co-owner of Integrated Control Technologies. “For many plants, the greatest hidden cost is energy loss due to using DC motors.”

ICT was launched in 2008 to upgrade extruder motors and controls. The company designed a standard product line, called ACPAK (AC extruder package), to replace DC extruder drives and inefficient motors. The company stocks the product in ranges from 75-500 horsepower. They can ship in as fast as one business day.

According to Barlow, an AC motor and drive can have a payback in as little as two years.

ICT uses components such as the U.S.-made Yaskawa A1000 drive.
