Blow molding equipment company Sidel Inc. says its new Starlite base increases the resistance and stability of PET bottles, while lowering energy consumption and weight.
The base is made using two Sidel innovations — the Edge Beam, which is a groove structure which improves stiffness, and the Smart Disc, which reinforces the base.
Together, the two innovations improve top-load dent resistance by 30 percent and side-load resistance by 55 percent, says the firm.
At the same time the base can lighten the weight by up to 1 gram of PET for a 0.5 liter bottle, or 2 grams on a 1.5 liter format, according to Sidel.
Finally, the required blowing pressure for the base is less than 20 bars, offering a reduction in air pressure of up to 25 percent during tests, says the firm.
The base is designed for water and juice bottles and can be used with nitrogen drop technology. It can be retrofitted onto existing bottle designs and can be used for all Sidel blowing platforms. | |
